REACTION: Postmodern Jukebox ft. Haley Reinhart – Creep (Radiohead)

Haley has a natural rasp in her speaking voice, so that grit in her singing voice isn’t forced. She said she had a ‘froggy’ voice as a child, and a tomboy, so she’s had quite a ‘glow up’. A ‘hippie chick’, flower child, check out some of her interviews to hear the rasp. 3 of her 4 albums are full of originals songs with one 60’s cover album dedicated to the musicians who inspired her parents. That album, “What’s That Sound” was recorded at Sunset Sound on analogue tape, using some of the engineers who worked on the original songs she covered, and flew her parents up to provide background vocals and guitar leads. The Zombies, Jefferson Airplane, Nancy Sinatra and the Turtles have all reached out to thank Haley for bringing their music to a new generation, respectively (“Time of the Season”, “White Rabbit”, “These Boots are Made for Walking”, and “You Showed Me’). Not necessary to react to, but I recommend Haley’s 2nd (“Better”) and most recent albums (“Lo-Fi Soul”), if you want to get a sense of Haley’s original music, they are my favorites of Haley’s four.Haley has a natural rasp in her speaking voice, so that grit in her singing voice isn’t forced. She did some scatting” It is said, Haley’s Dad, Harry, a Chicago Blues guitarist, would Scat to Haley when she was a baby and she would scat back to him before she could talk. She didn’t start studying Jazz (Her family are rockers, Mom and Dad together in a band for 40+ years) until high school when she auditioned to be the first singer in her high school Jazz band. They won the opportunity to sing at a festival in Umbria, Italy w/ Haley as their vocalist. Haley often scats in performances even on rock songs. One of my all time favorite performances w/ scatting I’ve seen was Haley’s cover of Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home”, but Steve Winwood’s Traffic version. Who inserts a 30 second scat into the middle of a classic rock song? Haley Reinhart, that’s who…. enjoy https://youtu.be/rfgTHVGtjjA PS my channel has 10 years worth of live Haley performances if you have the thought to go down that rabbit hole, cheers.

No one can really take my ears from Haley, but every once in a great while someone can take my eyes off her! I digress, that was a great review. You have great instinct as to when to break for commentary without disrupting the flow of the content and the knowledge to back up what makes that performance so good. Most of us fans feel she is under rated as well. Maybe she should be a superstar, but she is doing just fine for herself and has avoided selling out to further her career.”
