Don’t Speak – Haley Reinhart / Post Modern Jukebox -Reaction!

The year before Haley was a cast member of Idol, she auditioned but was ultimately rejected with randy Randy Jackson telling her to try again. (There was a palpable hostility between Haley and Randy the year she re-appeared and he made it hell for her.) She grew up in and around her parents rock band in the Chicago area, so I think that she and her sister were pretty comfortable on stage. When Haley was on Idol, she picked up a musical soulmate during that journey, Casey Abrams, the only contestant to every play an upright bass on the show, and they did a first on the show – a duet of the jazz song Moanin’ which brought the house down. A couple of other firsts for her, the first was having her dad play lead guitar on her exit song and secondly falling on her ass during the performance. She also had the best cover of a country song (LeAnn Rhymes – Blue) which was the best country song of that season – and one that Randy panned and was totally bored with. He was such a sleeze. “Pick a lane”. Her performances on the show are worth a review. https://youtu.be/KgBZgm8t5Dw

another great reaction PC. although haley reinhart has gotten more refined and polished with postmodern jukebox, she most certainly had this authentic character and unique vocal capabilities (i.e. rasp, growls, breathiness, etc) when she performed on american idol. i recommend that you react to her cover of “house of the rising sun” that is considered one of the best performances ever on that show. similar to her work with pmj, she completely reinterprets the iconic classic into a slowed down bluesy version but still maintains all the deep soul of the original by eric burdon and the band. it is located here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6dxNsWMb_E&list=PL51F818C207B2CFA5&index=17
